NO WAKE Recommended on the Chain - Extremely High Lake Levels

posted July 18, 2016
The Lower Hay Lake water level has risen almost eight inches within the last week!!!

We've had reports of a pontoon drifting off its lift over to the shore of another residence, a Chris Craft was about to float away before a neighbor noticed and secured it, and a fishing boat had to have water pumped out.  There have also been dock sections floating free around the lake - so watch out as you are out and about on the lake.  We are encouraging absent owners to contact your lake neighbors to check on their waterfront situation.

The Crow Wing County Sheriff has requested that boaters on the Whitefish Chain be very careful of speeds so that they do not cause large wakes, which can cause shoreline damage and make docks float away.

The Corps of Engineers was contacted about the rising water level, and they recommended if your dock is close to being underwater, that you raise or secure it before any additional rainfall.  It is believed the lake levels will be high for quite some time.
